Geolocation represents the identification of the geographical position of a user in the real world within a virtual map.
From its birth, geolocation increased its importance and fields of application.
As applicative examples it can be considered all those apps that allow the monitoring of a path and helps the user to reach a goal. Apps like these help to enrich the naturalistic paths and provide tourism companies with more opportunities for growth.
GEOLOCATION IN INDOOR ENVIRONMENTS
There are many possible applications of this technology: it is possible to create an extremely precise virtual planimetry of indoor areas for shops, public spaces or commercial complexes.
The system is based on WI-FI and it looks like an indoor GPS service.
With the help of indoor maps it is possible to provide additional services, to reproduce multimedia services, to inform about “points of interest” and about commercial opportunities according to the position in which the user is located with his/her smartphone within the area of interest.
An applicative example can be a promotional system that highlights which items are on sale in a shopping mall as soon as the customer is close to the interested shelf or a video guide explaining an artwork in a museum.
